I got into PC gaming shortly after my introduction to computers in my early teens back in the early 90′s. During that time, MS-DOS was the OS of choice and all games required some level of tinkering before they would function. Anyone from that era should have fond memories of EMM386 and counter-parts used to get a game to run.

Through all that mess, I still actively bought, installed, tinkered and played many PC games. At the same time, in the console market, the Nintendo Entertainment System reigned supreme. My father did buy an NES console for my brother and me and we dutifully played through Super Mario Brothers and were amazed that 8-bit graphics.

At this point in time, the PC’s with their SVGA graphics capability severely outpaced the best pixels that a console could throw up on the TV. Additionally, the variety of games available for the PC in a multitude of genres kept me happily ignoring the console for quite some time.

During this time, my brother managed to get his hands on a Sega Genesis, Super NES, Nintendo 64 and XBOX. As you can imagine this trek took us from the early 90′s to early 2000. Throughout this time, consoles were considered by me and many others to be an interesting distraction with no comparison to the PC when gaming was in question.

This premise held true until the release of the Sony Playstation 2 and Microsoft XBOX which finally made PC gamers stop for a moment and take notice. My first exposure to the XBOX came when I decided to borrow my brother’s console to play Jade Empire. I was very quickly blown away by how brilliant the game looked on my 50″ Samsung DLP HDTV. I went to play a few other games and was equally impressed by how far the consoles had come.

During this time, I continued to play PC games but with less frequency and had found that the variety of games and genres were shrinking. Also, I found that I was buying games with less frequency and in the time between purchases some component in my PC had been obsoleted and thus playing that new game not required it’s purchase but also a new PC component.

The journey that started around July of last year finally came to an end for us on Sunday 03/04/2007. Our daughter, Riana, was born at 2:20 PM. At birth she was 20″ long and weighed a slight 5lb 15oz. Even though she came almost 3 weeks in advance of her due date, she is very healthy and after a couple days stay at the hospital we returned home with her.

Having her in the house has been an adjustment for all of us, but it’s one that we all welcome and are enjoying. As first-time parents we have experienced help around us to make sure that we can handle our baby.

So far, the greatest amount of impact has been on our sleep, in that, we get sporadic amounts of it at night. However, because we have help in the house for everything else and are just focusing on the baby, it doesn’t seem to be that bad. Yet!

I’ve put a few pictures that we’ve taken from the time of birth to around mid week. I will post a couple of videos once I get them off the DV Cam and encode them properly.

Cheers

We’d had an opportunity to see some 3D images of her at about 20 weeks, but it is nothing compared to what she looks like now.

As part of the package we got a bunch of nice 3D pictures and a 40 min DVD of her quite active and interesting movements. This technology is quite amazing and gives us a very nice glimpse of her appearance while still in the womb.

Another, approximately, 8 to 10 weeks and we’ll know for certain who exactly she looks like.

Today is the day that we find out whether we are having a boy or girl. Geeta, needless to say, has been anxiously waiting for this day to arrive for quite a while. She naturally has the inability to be kept in dark about anything for long, and to have survived until now without knowing about this big a surprise is an amazing feat no doubt.

Amongst many decisions that are impending; baby naming comes to mind, people ask why we want to know the sex of the baby. I don’t think we see not knowing as necessarily any more fun than just knowing that we are having a boy or girl. I think it would be nice to refer to the baby as him or her rather than “it”.

Also, I imagine that knowing the sex will allow us to focus on things that only affect one sex, clothes, name and so on.

Oh the fun!

<del datetime="2006-10-29T01:16:46+00:00">The suspense continues..

Turns out that our baby was being very uncooperative today. So though we could tell that it seemed completely healthy, there was little else we could tell.</del>

It’s a Girl!

We had to visit a non-diagnostic ultrasound place, but we found out that we’re expecting a little girl.
