Star Wars: The Force Unleashed

Star Wars: The Force Unleashed (SW: TFU) has a demo up on the XBOX Live and I grabbed it today to check out the gameplay for myself. The game was previewed some time ago with spectacular force powers. It also has particle and physics technologies like DMM and Havoc which are said to heighten the effects of the overkill force powers.

The demo allows you to take control of the Apprentice through the Tie Fighter factory hunting for a Jedi master. You come pre-equipped with force push, lightening, grip and of course your trusty lightsaber. The game is set to be released in a couple of weeks, so a demo is appropriately timed to hype the game in addition to the plethora of videos readily available on any gaming website.

UP

Pixar has always made excellent movies. From the first Toy Story to Ratatouille (I haven’t had a chance to see Wall-E yet) the stories and characters have been very memorable.

This teaser for their next movie UP continues that fine tradition in an approx. 45 second video. Enjoy

Not So Cuil

I read about Cuil (pronounced as Cool) this morning and decided to see what it can do. It was created by former Google employees with the hopes of upstaging Google with it’s search prowess. However, a few simple search in Cuil yielded no useful results at all.

Cuil - A new search engine to rival Google

I searched for the string “linux usb hardy” in relation to an issue I was having with VirtuaBox on my Hardy based Linux machine and got back 2 completely useless results in Cuil while a plethora of useful results were hurled at me by Google.

I think Cuil has a way to go before declaring themselves “the world’s biggest search engine”.

Psychological Warfare

With growing technology, how long do you think it’ll be before cars themselves have the WiFi capability and the numerous hackers out there trying to wage war on it.

Death Star Canteen

Very funny clip, but pardon the language..:)

Call it a Mulligan

Well darn it, I died again.

In the little gaming time that I get these days I’ve been slowly traversing the massive world of Mass Effect. Without giving any of the plot away, I’m on the planet of Noveria and have essentially been stuck at the pivotal part of the game for the past couple of months now. I’ve tried various tactics to get past this point and all of my efforts have been faced with the inevitable fade to black.

Riana Turns One

Riana turned one today. Hard to imagine that it’s already been a year. Read all about it on my post on Riana’s site.

Moss Stays!

The free agency is in full swing in the NFL and we’ve lost CBs Asante Samuel to the Eagles, Randall Gay to the Saints and WR Donte’ Stallworth to the Browns, but I’m very happy to hear the Randy Moss has decided to stick with the Patriots for another 3 years. Wes Welker was initially signed to a 2-year deal and I hope the Pats are equally aggressive in signing him to a longer deal with the impact that he’s had in the 2007-2008 season.

Style Update

As you may have already noticed the site has a new look to it. I decided to go with a single column theme which should better showcase the posts up-front and center while relegating the various extras to the bottom of the page.

An additional change is in the Gallery where the pictures are displayed using Lightbox, a very nifty mechanism to display the images without having to reload the entire page.

I’ve been testing and fixing the theme and other parts of the site for a little while now and believe that everything is working as it should, be that not the case please let me know about it so I can fix it.

Death of HD DVD

The battle of the next-gen format between HD-DVD and Blu-Ray might be finally coming to an end. My XBOX 360 has the optional HD-DVD accessory and I chose not to get it for the fact that I don’t own that many movies and it sure would be a shame to buy either system until the format for the future was chosen for certain.

All the recent buzz and a article on eWeek seem to declare the demise of HD-DVD and Blu-Ray the chosen format. I wonder what this means to the XBOX 360.

I guess in this case early adopters of HD-DVD are the ones that will pay dearly to not only abandon their current HD-DVD players but potentially pick up a Blu-Ray player or PS3? :)

Updated 02/23/08
Turns out that Toshiba decided to waive the white flag on HD DVD officially. All early Blu-Ray adopters now get to walk around with their nose held high and tongue sticking out at anyone who’d question their Next-gen HD choice. I guess Sony’s choice to bundle the Playstation 3 with Blu-Ray players was a smart idea after all.
