Ridiculous Airport Security
I’m out of town at my company’s head office for the beginning of the this week and I got to experience our wonderful airport security after a very long hiatus. I’m here to report that everything is as annoying and messed up as ever.
Apart from having to remove my laptop from it’s carrying case, remove my shoes and unload every little thing from my pockets, the wonderful folks of the TSA decided that they’d take an extra close look at the toiletries that I was carrying.
The end result? I know have no toothpaste, hair gel, hand lotion. Why? Because I had more than quarter of the tube. These were essentially brand new tubes/bottles.
I’m not necessarily mad that they took these things away, but the fact that after taking 10 steps into the Terminal E, I could freely walk into the duty free shop and buy gallons upon gallons of alcohol to do all sorts of nasty things. Who thinks up these stupid rules anyway??
Cheers
Rainbow 6 Vegas
I got a chance to play the Rainbow 6 Vegas demo last night. This demo hasn’t been released in the US yet due to some exclusive deal with OXM so you will have to the trick of I talked about here to get your hands on the demo. I already own G.R.A.W and found that gameplay to be fairly tough. The controls are a little tough to get used to and I feared that R6 Vegas would be similar.
I was glad to see that the controls are a whole lot easier. However, learning the tactics of a squad based game and directing your squad mates will take a little bit of time. I’m used to just running around shooting by myself. The game employs some fairly simplistic measures for directing the squad. Moving them from location to location is a simple as pointing to the desired destination and hitting the A button. Can’t get any more simple than that. Read the rest of this entry »
The Day Has Arrived
Today is the day that we find out whether we are having a boy or girl. Geeta, needless to say, has been anxiously waiting for this day to arrive for quite a while. She naturally has the inability to be kept in dark about anything for long, and to have survived until now without knowing about this big a surprise is an amazing feat no doubt.
Amongst many decisions that are impending; baby naming comes to mind, people ask why we want to know the sex of the baby. I don’t think we see not knowing as necessarily any more fun than just knowing that we are having a boy or girl. I think it would be nice to refer to the baby as him or her rather than “it”.
Also, I imagine that knowing the sex will allow us to focus on things that only affect one sex, clothes, name and so on.
Oh the fun!
Turns out that our baby was being very uncooperative today. So though we could tell that it seemed completely healthy, there was little else we could tell.
We had to visit a non-diagnostic ultrasound place, but we found out that we’re expecting a little girl.

R6 Vegas Demo on XBL Marketplace
One of the smartest things that a game developer can do to better market their game and sell many copies is to release a playable demo that showcases the game. The XBOX Live Marketplace infrastructure allows for an easy venue for releasing these demos.
Unfortunately, Microsoft has decided that certain demos are only worth releasing in the US or Europe or Japan. One would think that this would be a hindrance to a gamer, but fear not. Turns out all you have to do is visit Xbox.com and create a new gamertag which is attached to an email account housed in Japan or Europe.
A case in point is the new Rainbow Six Vegas demo which is only available on the non-US marketplaces. Go figure!
Cheers
A Winless War
President Bush acknowledged Friday that “it’s tough” in Iraq and said he would consult with American generals to see if a change in tactics is necessary to combat the escalating violence.
Karl Rove recently suggested that the US and coalition troops wouldn’t pull out of Iraq until the war on terror was won and the security of the western countries secured. Bush has already acknowledged that a change in tactics is necessary to extricate ourselves in any reasonable amount of time.
I wonder if there is going to be any of sort of a “win” in this war and what the future holds.
Welcome to Mindful Meanderings
Welcome to the new incarnation of my blog. When I initially launched it, I was unsure as to the style or the content of it which lead to a variety of posts ranging from technology to just random news I found interesting. Now, after a year or so I’ve begun to formulate an idea of what I would want to blog about.
That being said, I decided to make a fresh start; not only in content, but also in the visual presentation of the blog. To that end, let me detail some of the changes that have taken place and upcoming direction of the content.
